Temporary closure of main parking lot by Jökulsárlón

The main parking lot at Jökulsárlón will be closed from Friday 2nd October until Wednesday 7th October due to construction works.

Visitors are advised to use the parking lots at Eystri-Fellsfjara and Vestri-Fellsfjara, both of which will remain open throughout the construction period. Temporary toilet facilities will be available at both parking areas.

Visitors taking boat tours on the lagoon or glacier tours are encouraged to arrive a little earlier than usual to allow time to walk between the parking areas and tour meeting points.

Visitors with reduced mobility who require access closer to the visitor facilities or tour departure points are encouraged to speak with staff on site, who will be available to assist where possible.

This is a particularly busy period with high visitor numbers in the area and we recognise that these temporary changes may affect your visit and apologise for any inconvenience. The construction works are being carried out to improve visitor facilities and the overall visitor experience. We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and cooperation during this period. National Park rangers will be available throughout the area to assist visitors and answer any questions.
