Landslide by Dettifoss
A large landslide has fallen from the cliffs of Jökulsárgljúfur, close to the viewing platform just northwest of Dettifoss. Newest update on the condition are on Jökulsárgljúfur facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Jokulsargljufur
As reported before the weekend, a landslide occurred right by the viewing platform. During a closer inspection the crack still appears to be very unstable. Cracks that were not known before were also discovered in the area. For safety reasons, it was decided to close the northernmost part of the viewing platform as well as the path down to the waterfall. It is not considered safe to open those spots again until experts have assessed the situation.
It is still possible to go and see Dettifoss, both from the southern part of the viewing platform and from the viewpoint above the waterfall.
