Geothermal heatingproject at the campground in Skaftafell

Currently, a geothermal heating project is taking place at the campground in Skaftafell. The aim of the project is bring geothermal water to the service buildings on the campground, making it no longer necessary to heat the buildings and the showers with electricity.

Due to this project, half of the campground has been fenced off, that is the half that is further away from the visitor centre. Unfortunately that is where the electric hook-ups for campers and caravans are located, but those in dire need for electricity should contact the rangers at the visitor centre in order to solve their problem.

It is estimated that the project will conclude at the end of May / beginning of June. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. At the same time we urge people to be careful around the project site.
