Current conditions in Jökulsárgljúfur (Dettifoss, Ásbyrgi, etc.)

DETTIFOSS

Trails:The walk between the car park and Dettifoss is 800 meters long and from there it is another 300m to the observation deck. Hiking conditions are good but the last 300 meters can be slippery.  Good shoes with a coarse sole are recommended. Only Trails D1/D2 (to Dettifoss and Selfoss) are open, other trails are closed.

The road/track to Hafragilsfoss is open but not recommended for small vehicles.

Toilets: Dry toilets are available on the car park.

Road 862 on the west side has been open from Road 1 to Dettifoss (a paved road all the way). Between Dettifoss and Ásbyrgi the road is open for all cars but the northernmost 4 km of it are very bumpy so drive carefully.

Please note that directions from Google Maps are not accurate as they direct towards road 864 on the east side which is currently impassable (road 864 is a primitive gravel road).

Visit road.is for up to date information on road conditions.

ÁSBYRGI/VESTURDALUR/HLJÓÐAKLETTAR

Ásbyrgi campground: Open
