Filming and research permits

PROCEDURE POLICIES AND APPLICATION FORMS FOR RESEARCH AND FILMING WITHIN THE NATIONAL PARK

Film-making, the making of advertisements and other such activities:

All film-making, the making of advertisements and other such activities inside the Vatnajökull National Park are subject to permits granted by the relevant National Park Warden, cf. paragraph 1 of Article 18 of Regulations No. 608/2008 on the Vatnajökull National Park.

Those who are interested in film-making, the making of advertisements or other such activities in the National Park have to fill out an application form for a permit and send it to the National Park Warden of that region where the anticipated activities will take place. If the intention is to conduct such activities in more than one region, then applications must be made to the national park wardens of the relevant regions.

Permits must be applied for with at least 30 days notice if there are 10 or more persons involved in the relevant project, and with 7 days notice if there are fewer persons involved in the project.

Research of nature and the natural environment and of cultural remains:

All research of nature and the natural environment and of cultural remains in the Vatnajökull National Park that are not conducted by the National Park authorities or are not part of the implementation of a preservation project are subject to a research permit issued by the relevant National Park Warden, cf. Article 18 of Regulations No. 608/2008 on the Vatnajökull National Park.

Those who intend to do research inside the National Park also need to apply for the appropriate research permits from other relevant entities, such as permits for sample collection, pursuant to Act No. 60/1992, from the Icelandic Institute of Natural History and Natural History Museum Branches.

Those who are interested in conducting research in the National Park pursuant to Article 1 have to fill out an application form for a permit and send it to the Park Warden of the region where the anticipated activities will take place. If the intention is to conduct research in more than one region, then applications must be made out to the park wardens of the relevant regions.

Applications must be submitted with at least 30 days notice.
