Commercial film permit

Work procedures concerning permits for film-making, the making of advertisements and permits for other such activities in the Vatnajökull National Park

 

 

Article 1

All film-making, the making of advertisements and other such activities inside the Vatnajökull National Park are subject to permits granted by the relevant National Park Warden, cf. paragraph 1 of Article 18 of Regulations No. 608/2008 on the Vatnajökull National Park.

 

 

Article 2

Those who are interested in film-making, the making of advertisements or other such activities in the National Park have to fill out an application form for a permit and send it to the National Park Warden of that region where the anticipated activities will take place. If the intention is to conduct such activities in more than one region, then applications must be made to the national park wardens of the relevant regions.

 

Permits must be applied for with at least 30 days notice.

 

An application form for a permit is attached to these regulations.

 

 

Article 3

The National Park Warden of the relevant region grants permits for film-making, advertisement making and other such activities pursuant to these regulations.

 

If the activities do not comply with the provisions of Act No. 60/2007 on the Vatnajökull National Park, the provisions of Regulations No. 608/2008 on activities in the National Park or with the provisions of the Preservation Plan for the National Park, then the National Park Warden shall decline to grant such a permit. At the same time, the granting of a permit shall be declined if the National Park Warden thinks that the activities will cause damage or that they will cause a disruption to the biosphere, or to geological formations and to the landscape inside the National Park, cf. paragraph 1 of Article 14 of Act No. 60/2007.

 

 

Article 4

The holder of the permit must, in his/her activities, study and comply with the provisions of Act No. 60/2007 on the Vatnajökull National Park and the provisions of Regulations No. 608/2008, as well as the provisions of the National Park Preservation Plan.

 

The National Park Warden shall supervise the activities carried out by the holder of the permit in order to monitor compliance with the provisions, cf. item (3) of Article 10 of Act No. 60/2007. The holder of the permit must submit all the information and documents that the Warden feels are necessary in order to perform his/her supervisory role.

 

It is permitted to have a supervisor on location if the National Park Warden deems it to be necessary for conservation reasons.

 

 

Article 5

The holder of a permit and his/her staff must treat the natural environment and the cultural remains in the National Park with orderliness and display the utmost care and consideration, so that the natural environment, the cultural remains and installations in the national park will not be corrupted, cf. paragraph 1 of Article 9 of Regulations No. 608/2008.

 

The holder of a permit and his/her staff must comply with the instructions given by the National Park Wardens and by other National Park employees concerning orderliness and conduct in the National Park, cf. paragraph 2 of Article 9 of Regulations No. 608/2008.

 

A National Park Warden may suspend the permit holder’s activities if it becomes evident that such activities will have and/or may have a negative impact on nature and the natural environment, or on the cultural remains of the National Park, and the warden may likewise expel the holder of the permit or his/her staff from the National Park if the relevant person is in violation of the provisions of Act No. 60/2007 or of Regulations No. 608/2008. Violations against the Act and the Regulations issued under it are punishable by fines or a prison term of up to two years.
