Updated January 28th 2011*
Ásbyrgi
Most hiking routes in the vicinity of Ásbyrgi are covered in snow/ice or they get muddy during thaw conditions.. The road into the Ásbyrgi canyon is only open if the snow conditions are not to heavy.
Vesturdalur (Hljódaklettar) / Hólmatungur / Dettifoss
Impassable. The road that goes to the above places (road 862) is closed until the beginning of June (depends on weather condtions). Therefore there is no easy access to these places.
Road 864 on the east side of the Jökulsá river is also closed until the end of May/beginning of June. It normally opens 1-2 weeks earlier than road 862.
