A new visitor centre opened in East Iceland
Snaefellsstofa, a brand new visitor centre in Vatnajokull National Park, was formally opened yesterday. Snaefellsstofa is an information center and a souvenir shop for tourists, and boasts itself of a new and innovative exhibition called Veraldarhjólið (the cycle of the world). It also serves as headquarters for the management of the national park's eastern territory.
Sneafellsstofa is designed and built according to environmentally sound standards (BREEAM) and utilises building materials from the area. It is the first of its kind in Iceland.
Snaefellsstofa is located near Egilsstadir in East Iceland, by road 933. During the summer of 2010 it is open everday from 9 to 19.
